Event details: The Troubadour
Description
Guiseppe Verdi's immensely popular opera "The Troubadour"(Il Trovatore) will be performed in the lovely St. Mark's Church in Florence.
Verdiâs masterpiece is situated in 15th century Zaragoza in Spain. It tells the story of the inexorable fight between the troubadour Manrico and the Count di Luna for the beautiful countess Leonora. But also Azucena, a gispy woman and supposedly Manrico's mother, is fomenting trouble. In earlier times, her mother was sentenced to death by Count di Luna's father. Now, Azucena wants to avenge her mother's death. The musical focal point is in the role of the powerful gipsy Azucena, whose wild and tragic emotions are a constant throughout the opera.
The opera in four acts will be performed by five singers in costumes, accompanied by piano, in the intimate setting of the Anglican Church of Florence. Each act will be explained in English.
