Daily - Dawn to Dusk. This is your opportunity for four stamps. This is the heart of Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind novel/movie. Her ancestors owned a farm a very short distance away and much of the inspiration for her novel is centered here (oral histories from family & friends). This is a historical walk which starts in the heart of downtown Fayetteville with turn-of-the-century homes and classic storefront shops on "Courthouse Square." It meanders past historic landmarks such as the Holiday-Dorsy House (Doc Holiday of Tombstone Fame was a cousin of Margaret), the school featured in Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the Wind" and the cemetery where her ancestors (prototypes of the O'Haras) are buried. It further goes around the courthouse. Until a few years ago this building was the oldest continuously service as a courthouse in Georgia. The walk then goes through residential areas (particulary notice Jordan's salvage as you walk to the residential area) and ends up passing the historial train station. Water/rest rooms are available at the start point and at fast food restaurants and service stations near the route. This is a very nice walk well worth a trip off the interstate. In addition to Margaret Mitchell's GONE WITH THE WIND, Fayetteville author Ferror Sams Jr has written eight books.
