      Dads, brothers, big brothers welcome!

"Our mission is to motivate boys to read by connecting them with materials they will want to read, in ways they like to read."

The Youth Services department at the Farmington Public Library is starting a GUYS READ Charter Field Office. GUYS READ is a web based literacy program founded by Jon Scieszka to help boys become self-motivated, lifelong readers. Our charter will meet using GUYS READ recommended books. Each week, we will add our own reviews and lists.

Research shows that boys are having trouble reading and getting worse at it. GUYS READ takes several initiatives to motivate guys to read. What boys like to read is not often the same as what they are required to read. Literacy fiction is the mainstay of required school reading. Yet boys often prefer non-fiction, humor, information, comics/graphic novels, and more humor.

The program will be organized and facilitated by Byron Tsabetsaye, a Youth Services Technician at the Farmington Public Library and an AmeriCorps Alumnus.
