I Street: Writing Class: The Craft of Writing for Children at Fair Oaks Library

Start Time: 6:00 PM

Using a balance of lecture, exercises, and instructor feedback on your work, you will learn the basics of writing and selling a children's book while exploring the elements of creative writing - plot, character, dialogue, description, setting, and voice. This class will look closely at examples of successful children's writing to determine what makes the writing successful. Lectures and lessons will focus on editing and revising your own work to bring a rough draft up to professional standards. This class, while focusing on children's books, is appropriate for people writing for any age group as the craft concepts learned apply to any creative writing.

Teri Kanefield is the author of The Girl From The Tarpaper School (forthcoming in 2012, Abrams Books for Young Readers, Rivka's Way (Cricket Books, 2001), and about a dozen short stories and essays. She holds an MA in fiction writing from UC Davis and a law degree from UC Berkeley.

Classes will take place:
January 31-March 27, 2012
Tuesdays: 6:00-8:30 p.m.
NO CLASS February 21
