      Second Annual Alaska Autism Conference                                  Featuring Keynote Speaker                                      Michelle Garcia Winner The Autism Society of Alaska is pleased to offer the Second Annual Autism Conference. In 2016 the Autism Society of Alaska hosted the first annual conference to bring together the community in the name of autism. We reached 2,550 people through the conference events! View the newsletter from the 2016 conference.  The 2017 speaker is Congressional-award-winning speech-language pathologist who specializes in treating students who are experiencing social and communication challenges, Michelle Garcia Winner to keynote on Social Thinking. Social Thinking is a framework of strategies she pioneered for developing social thinking and social skills. There will also be eight breakout sessions featuring local speakers and exhibit booths for attendees to discover what is offered in Alaska.  We are pleased to announce we are partnering with UAF School of Education to provide CEUs as well as working with the American Speech-Language-Hearing-Association to offer ASHA credit for this conference. The UAF is hosting a 1 credit class for the ASA Conference. CRN 78356 for Understanding Autism - ASA Conference. Non-degree Students 1. Check the requirements You are not working toward a degree and have not been accepted to a degree program. You want to enroll as a nondegree student for the upcoming semester. You will be subject to examination requirements for math, reading and English placement for courses numbered 000 - 599. For 600-level courses, please be prepared to provide supporting documentation that shows you have suitable background knowledge to successfully participate in the course. You must maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain in good standing. You will not be eligible for financial aid. 2. Confirm your registration status       a. Continuing nondegree students You registered as a nondegree student at any UA campus within the last two years. If you meet the conditions in 1 and 2a above, you are ready to register online as a continuing nondegree student. View instructions on how to register.        b. New or returning nondegree students You have never taken any courses at a UAF campus (or have not taken any courses within the last two years). Visit http://uaf.edu/admissions/apply and select "Apply for Admission," then create a new user and complete the "My Profile" and "My Application". The Non Degree-Seeking application is free and is normally processed within 24 hours. If you are under 18 and have not graduated from high school, you may be required to complete an additional step. For help applying or registering, visit the Office of Admissions and the Registrar. The Alaska Autism Conference is organized through the Autism Society of Alaska, an options based non-profit organization ran by volunteers and one part time Executive Director. We were founded in 2008 in Fairbanks and have expanded to housing an office space in Fairbanks. We hold board positions for people across the State. At this time the majority of our board members are located in Fairbanks. We are a statewide organization and invite community members to apply to be on the board from across the state for us to better reach the needs of Alaskans everywhere.
