Description
Take an easy hike through our venerable local forests to capture giant lichens, a fall foliage carpet, water spots, interesting centuries-old trees, and an abandoned junkyard. The textures and contrast should be especially appealing to those interested in black and white photography. Fellow member Kevin and I will guide you through a gentle walk into the woods and to a few spots of note we've found over the hundreds of hours we've walked these woods with our dogs and kids, or alone. We'll have color maps to hand out, which you can use if you decide to come back and explore further on your own. Feel free to bring GPS units, there will be geocaching spots throughout. Photographers of all levels will find something to shoot. This trip is entirely appropriate for snapshot cameras. Even if you don't find a single shot, you'll enjoy the walk. What to Bring Camera and tripod. You can get away without a tripod, but a lightweight travel tripod will be very helpful for dark areas, together with a remote release if you have one. Bring a flash unit if you like. You probably will not need density or polarizing filters, the light will be well-filtered through the trees and the bright sky shouldn't interfere with shots. Warms layers of clothing. There's virtually no wind and the walk will warm you up, but expect it to be chilly and prepare by layering your clothing. Hiking boots or comfortable walking shoes. Chances are they'll get dirty, so don't bring that pristine white pair of new sneaks. A water bottle and snacks. This is a wonderful place to bring dogs, but please leave dogs at home for this meetup. Logistics We will meet at Me and Ollies in Exeter, NH by 9:30AM. It's at 63 Water Street, just down the street from the gallery, and will afford you a healthy and delicious breakfast or morning snack before we start. The parking lot is small, so consider street or lot parking. At around 10AM we'll drive to one of the forests, which has ample parking and begin the walk. We will probably be done around noon time, after which we'll regroup and those willing will drive to nearby Las Olas for the healthiest and tastiest burrito lunch north of Mexico. We'll grab a separate room to go over the day's photos. I will make my cell phone number available to all attendees shortly before the event begins in case you have questions or get lost.
