Pi Singles Meet the Author Evening - Vanessa de Haan

Join us on Monday 17th February for our Pi Meet the Author Evening, with Vanessa De Haan. About Vanessa "I'm a freelance journalist, editor and author who has worked in-house for various media companies – including Channel 5 and the Daily Telegraph – but I spent most of my office-based working life at The Spectator magazine, predominantly as a production editor but also contributing features. It was a great place to work - not just because of the fantastic characters who also worked there (which meant much lively debate) and the mixture of people we dealt with from day to day (one minute you might be chasing up an erudite journalist's copy; the next, following a famous actress up the stairs), but also because I was allowed to work barefoot (I've always had a hang-up about shoes since being a tall teenager) and to bring a small white terrier to work with me.   In 2005 I moved temporarily from London to Devon to concentrate on my own writing. I always intended to go back, but once Devon had got under my skin, I couldn't leave. There was also the added complication of a husband. I completed the MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University (great course; terrifying interview) and was a columnist on the Western Morning News for almost three years (writing under the name Zoë Kenyon - a mixture of my middle name and maiden name).   I still proofread and copy edit in between writing and picking small bits of Lego out of small pairs of trousers. I still live in Devon, with the same husband as well as three young children, a flat coated retriever who hates retrieving, and Barney the cat who enjoys deleting random things when attacking my computer"   Her book, Restless Sea has been reviewed by Jeffery Archer and has been described as "The sure- footedness of a pro"     Non-members are welcome to book this event and give Pi Society a try!
