The Wild Hearts - a documentary about dicks and freedom...

THE WILD HEARTS is a road movie about a young man’s search for identity, recognition and love. The film’s title refers to a Danish moped club called The Wild Hearts – a group of youths in their early twenties who want to find personal freedom through fellowship.

The boys’ fellowship and individual dreams for the future are put to the test as they embark on their mopeds in Denmark on a journey through Europe to Pomerania in Poland. Maybe they will never return.

The Wild Hearts is more than a club; it’s a state of mind that leads you through back roads into the depths of your soul. Freedom has its price!

      DIRECTORS NOTE:
A BLOODY ROAD MOVIE ABOUT SOLIDARITY

      12 boys... 1,200 kilometers... 30 kilometers-per-hour...
      by moped.

THE WILD HEARTS is a road movie; therefore the central plot is the road trip to Pomerania. We have to follow this trip closely; we need to know where we are and where the boys want to go. A road movie is based on a specific journey. There’s preparation. There’s a stop – something happens. Something goes wrong. Another stop – then on. Faster. Something goes wrong that can’t be done over … Further, still faster … A new stop, a new struggle, a new problem. We follow all the elements that comprise this journey, all the exertions necessary to see the trip through. Exertions that are in vain if the trip fails.

THE WILD HEARTS is a movie in direct continuation of my latest production, VESTERBRO - a youth film dealing with the ups and downs of two young lovers, Julie and Martin.
The movie’s central plot is based on footage that was shot in the summer of 2007 of the boys’ month-long trip. The film’s central figures manifest themselves in the course of the travelling and the filming, where their individual and collective understanding is challenged to the limit.

The film’s central plot is told linearly, and - like in a classic road movie or Homer’s Odyssey - the brave young men face constant new challenges: no money, no gas, no direction, no road and mechanical breakdowns. Some of the boys are too slow; others are too crude. There are fist fights and blood, there’s lewdness in a porno shop at the German border, temptations in Rostock, the curse of a crazy woman – and the big question of what the point of the trip actually is. Why Pomerania? Does life have a meaning?
This movie exists on the border between real life and fiction, just as the boys themselves attempt to break the limits of what one soul can bear. This is a movie that needs to be made – and seen – with high octane in the blood!
