I've been exposed to several new sushi places with the Dinner Group, but the Bonsai Restaurant has always remained my favorite. Due to it's small size, it was a difficult proposition to talk Peter, the owner, into letting our group come in on a Friday night. But after alot of sweet talk and alot of negotiation on group size, he finally agreed to let us decend upon the place. Peter's first restaurant was a co-owned establishment in Crystal City known as the Bonsai Grill. At one point, Peter decided to venture out on his own and opened up the Bonsai in Shirlington Village. He eventually expanded into Rossyln and opened up Kanpai, which ended up being awarded an editors' pick in the washingtonpost.com city guide. Both restaurants are known for having some of the freshest sushi in town. Sushi is always cullinary and visual feast and the Bonsai Restaurant provides a homey atmostphere in which to indulge. With 1,200+ members and extremely limited seating, we cannot afford no-shows - it's unfair to the other members who would like to attend and also to the organizers who have to explain to the restaurant why the reserved # of guests didn't show. 2. If you'd like to attend a full event, check back as attendees cancel as late as noon the day of the event. 3.
