Debussy - L’apres midi d'un faune (arr. B Sachs)
Mussorgsky - *Pictures at an Exhibition (arr. Julian Yu)
Mahler - Symphony No.4 (arr.Stein)

*UK Premiere

Lyn Fletcher, Leader of the Hallé directs Lancashire's professional orchestra in 3 works traditionally associated with huge romantic symphony orchestras.

For an orchestra full of soloists, this is a dream programme. The works in this programme have been transferred into the chamber orchestra repertoire through the skilled reorchestrations of three composers.

Debussy’s impressionistic masterpiece, L’Apres Midi d’un Faune, is a pictorial work which paints its’ fluid textures and endless phrases through a divine harmonic landscape.

We are delighted to give the UK premiere of an exceptional arrangement by composer Julian Yu, of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures” – you can hear the brush strokes of the artists and the Great Gates of Kiev have never sounded so luminous. The orchestra will shortly release a recording which will inspire a new learning resource for schools.

Concluding the programme is Mahler 4 - a huge symphonic work which is brilliantly effective in this condensed form. International operatic diva, Amanda Roocroft, transports us to another world in this heavenly symphony.
