Tate Britain hosts a major show to explore the influence of Pablo Picasso on future generations through the late Spanish artist's connections with Britain. The exhibition explores his impact on British modernism through works by seven British artists heavily influenced by Picasso, including Henry Moore, David Hockney and Francis Bacon. These artists, spanning a period of more than seventy years, show how wide and varied the responses to Picasso's work have been. Henry Moore's Reclining Figure 1936, for example, will be shown with Picasso's La Source (1921); and David Hockney's portrait of Christopher Isherwood alongside Picasso's portrait of the mother of his lover Marie-Therese Walter to show how these great artists draw on their predecessor's work. Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, Ben Nicholson, and Graham Sutherland are also featured in the Tate show which features 150 works, including approximately 70 by Picasso. For part of the 2012 exhibition, between 27th February and 4th March, The English National Ballet takes up residence in Tate Britain's Duveen galleries, helping to explore Picasso's enthusiasm for the Ballets Russes. Given this connection with dance, appropriately, the exhibition ends with his 1925 painting The Three Dancers. If the Tate's 1960 Picasso exhibition is anything to go by - a blockbuster show attended by 460,000 people including some members of the royal family - there will be queues around the block.
