Description
Volunteers from the Northern Mill Engine Society have rescued and restored 25 old stationary steam engines - some of the engines which once powered the textile mills of the North of England. Most will be running in steam on Saturday and Sunday. Our oldest engine is around 170 years old! We have 2 rare beam engines and a unique "non-dead-centre" engine in the collection. Our volunteers have just rescued another very old and unusual engine from the scrapman. After lying in a field in Yorkshire for over 30 years, we are now restoring it back to working order.
You'll find us at the back of Morrison's Atlas Mills supermarket, on Chorley Old Road, next to the petrol station: (this is the out-of-town Morrison's, not the one near the town centre.) Admission is free, and there is free unlimited parking on the supermarket car park. For further details see our website: http://www.nmes.org
