Description
River Rock Show Theatre

For over fifty years, Neil Sedaka has written, performed, produced and inspired countless songs and his canon of compositions will continue to stand the test of time. Sedaka catapulted into stardom after Connie Francis recorded his “Stupid Cupid” in 1958 followed by the theme song for M-G-M’s 1960 spring break classic, Where The Boys Are which he had co-written. Rhythm and blues stars Clyde McPhatter and La Vern Baker also scored hits with his songs. As a result of these hits, he was able to sign a contract with RCA as a writer and performer of his own material and soon recorded chart toppers “The Diary,” “Calendar Girl” and “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do.” His music became distinguished for a unique recording style involving multi-tracking his own voice to achieve a rich sound. It was in 1975 when “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do” was re-released as a ballad and made music history when it reached #1 on the charts becoming the first song recorded in two different versions by the same artist to reach #1. Sedaka’s other songs “Laughter in the Rain” and “Bad Blood” which were co-written with Phil Cody were also #1 hits. He has written countless songs for such artists as Tom Jones, The Monkees and The Fifth Dimension. The accolades showered on Sedaka have been numerous. Among the honours he has received, he has been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame, has had a street named after him in his hometown of Brooklyn and was given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2007, a special concert performance was held at the Lincoln Center in New York City to honour the 50th anniversary of his show business career. Sedaka who just turned 70 last week still enjoys performing to sold-out audiences throughout North America and will be returning to the River Rock Casino Resort in November.
