Keywords Lecture: Union at Rivington Place

Keywords takes its title from Raymond Williams' seminal book Keywords: a Vocabulary of Culture and Society first published in 1976, which looks at how the meaning of words change as the context in which they are used changes about them. In this lecture writer and activist Neera Adarkar will explore the term 'union'.

Architect Neera Adarkar's concern for social, urban and gender issues has resulted in her associations with various civil society organisations in Mumbai, including the Textile Workers' Union and the Mumbai Peoples' Action Committee. Adarkar co-authored One Hundred Years One Hundred Voices, Oral History of Millworkers of Girangaon (2004) with Meena Menon, and edited The Chawls of Mumbai; Galleries of Life (2011).

NB. Meena Menon was originally scheduled to speak at this event but due to unforeseen circumstances is regretfully no longer able to attend.
