Who is Kaj Skjervik?
Born to Norwegian father and English mother, Kaj was delivered to the world in the early hours of 9th June 1980 in the city of Stavanger, Norway. After the death of his father a short year and a half later. A young Kaj moved with his mother to her native England. At the age of seven, Kaj was offered the opportunity to join his step-fathers band playing the keyboard and to sing a few songs. The experience of playing to a live audience and to be able to affect people's emotions so directly is something that would change Kaj's life forever.

So, Is Kaj Skjervik a singer-songwriter?
Having previously been a part of a band, it was the challenge of being to take to the stage alone that would prove a challenge that Kaj could not ignore. It was three years ago that, armed with his acoustic guitar, electric piano and a batch of self-penned tunes, that Kaj would play a six-month residency at London's infamous 12 Bar Club on Denmark Street W1. Known to many fondly as 'Tinpan Alley'. This regular spot has gave Kaj the chance to explore just what a 'singer-songwriter' might do live.

"Sometimes it's great to see what your capable of on your own. The quiet moments, the big moments, it's all there waiting for you to put music to it. Use your voice to make a percussive sound, or to mimick an instrument such as the trumpet. That's always fun".

Seeking inspiration from many artists, including Prince, Jack Johnson and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Kaj's music is constantly evolving and changing shape.

So what is Kaj up to at the moment?
August of summer 2011 saw the release of Kaj's debut album 'Dear Me!'. Ten songs written, produced and financed entirely by himself. 'Dear Me!' is released on Kaj's independant label Blue Guitar Records.You can download and share these tracks exclusively on Myspace. Copies of the album can also be purchased at Kaj's live shows.

Having played over one-hundred shows this year already, the coming twelve months would appear to be an eventful one in the world of Kaj. Keep an eye out for him in your part of town!
