Fall Plant Sale at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Birmingham Botanical Gardens' Fall Plant Sale will be held in Blount Plaza at The Gardens on Saturday, October 20 from 9-5 p.m. and Sunday, October 21 from noon-4 p.m. "October brings cooler air, which helps maintain good soil moisture, and hardy plants are entering dormancy, which means no stress from planting," says Fred Spicer, The Gardens' executive director. "Autumn kicks off the ideal time to plant in Alabama-and it's much more pleasant to work outdoors now with milder temperatures, crisp air and fewer bugs!" Thousands of plants will be for sale all weekend, including annuals, biannuals, fall lettuces, bedding plants, camellias, daylilies, herbs, hostas, irises, natives, perennials, trees, shrubs, ferns and more. In addition to this broad selection, the two-day sale is also a great opportunity to get free, expert advice from dozens of garden-savvy volunteers working at each plant booth. Fall Plant Sale is free and open to the public, just as Birmingham Botanical Gardens are 365 days a year. Proceeds from the sale benefit the The Gardens' mission to promote public knowledge and appreciation of plants, gardens and the environment. Birmingham Botanical Gardens is Alabama's largest living museum with over 10,000 different plants in its living collections. The Gardens' 67.5 acres contains over 25 unique gardens, 30+ works of original outdoor sculpture, miles of serene paths and a public horticulture library. The Gardens is open daily and offers free admission.
