Scarborough Historical Museum
Scarborough Historical Museum depicts the lives of early settlers in the 1800's. It's located in Thomson Memorial Park, which was originally granted to David and Mary Thomson. The couple gave the land to the city for use as a park to commemorate the city's first settlers. As the park was being constructed, the historical Cornell House, built in 1858, was threatened with demolition to make way for a railroad overpass. The community rallied together to save the home, which ended up in the park, along with the McCowan log cabin, the Kennedy Gallery and the Hough Carriage Works.Tours are led by interpreters in period costume to help visitors appreciate the heritage of Scarborough's early years as a rural community in Ontario. The surrounding Thomson Park has picnic areas, a playground, bike paths, and a petting zoo. Scarborough Historic Museum is operated by the City of Toronto Culture Division.Admission: Adults: $3 Seniors/ Youth (13-18): $1.50 Children: $1 Getting There: By Transit: Take the Brimley #21 bus from the Scarborough Town Centre. The bus stops right outside the park entrance.Post a Countdown Widget
