Description
This Meetup is thanks to Chris Schultz who has been on these rides (and highly recommends them). We will be joining the Thailand Cycling Club for this event. While not a gay group, it is very diverse and welcomes all. This will be a fun opportunity to experience Bangkok in a totally different way. The group is about 90% Thais. The group has has had between 20 and 150 riders, depending on the event. All ages, income levels, orientations, etc. There are usually a few farang - about 10% of the group depending on the event, etc. Plenty of the Thais speak English at least reasonably well. The November 15 bike ride is a leisurely 40 km and will take in several interesting sites on the far side of the river. Bikes can be rented from Spice Roads www.spiceroads.com and it could be a fun way to see more of the city and interact with some Thais. Details The Thailand Cycling Club has announced a 40km ride on Sunday November 15th. Here is what their website (in Thai) says, as translated by Chris: 7:30 - Meet at the Sanam Luang Plaza on the side of Thammasat University. (This is near the Grand Palace) 8:00 - Depart crossing the Pinklao Bridge. First stop: visit the manufacturer of rock serving bowls - the only one in Thailand. Breakfast to follow at Taling Chan Floating Market. (Pay on your own!) Next, cycle down Suan Pak Road to the "Ancient Bicycle House", a museum that has a display of antique bikes from different eras in Thai history. Next we'll go to Wat Pruksamala, Located on the edge of Khlong Mahasawat, this beautiful temple's main chapel dates from the late Ayutthaya era. 11:30 - Eat lunch at a location to be determine (spread the wealth to the local economy by eating at a local shop!) 13:30 - Bicycle to Wat Po Bango, another Ayutthaya era temple with fantastic murals. Next we'll cycle to Wat Bang Oi Chang, where there is an impressive standing Buddha image and "Buddha Footsteps" that are more than 200 years old. Then cycle back using Bang Gruay and Sirinthon Roads. 17:00 - Return to Sanam Luang. Total distance about 40 km. Leisurely pace with several stops. Newbies welcome. No need to register. http://x0b.xanga.com/e73f565310633255346584/b203041561.jpg
