Description
In that time, he made more than 60 first ascents and discovered new routes in the mountains of Western Canada. Today he is remembered for the first ascents of Mount Robson (1913), Mount Louis (1916), and Bugaboo Spire (1916).The Conrad Kain Centennial Society has spearheaded a year-long celebration with numerous events and projects, and the Archives and Library is honoured to be a part of this tribute through its archival display "BERGHEIL – Conrad Kain and the Canadian years: his life, his words". Bergheil was Kain’s traditional Alpine greeting when he reached the peak of a mountain. With no direct English translation, it loosely translates as “Salute the mountains,” “Hail to the mountains,” or “Long live the mountains.”
