Kamloops, BC; One night only! Country legend RANDY TRAVIS hits the stage at the Interior Saving Centre in Kamloops, on Wednesday, August 6, 2008.
It’s not enough to say that RANDY TRAVIS is one of the most popular artists in the history of country music. Twenty years ago, album sales of 100,000 were considered high for a country artist, and the whole genre seemed to be desperately trying to reinvent itself in the pop-music mold. That was when Randy Travis released his first album—a pure and unapologetic expression of country that went multi-platinum.
With 6 Grammy Awards, 5 CMA Awards, 9 Academy of Country Music Awards, 10 American Music Awards and 20 albums later, it’s no exaggeration to say that RANDY TRAVIS altered the artistic course of the whole industry, steering it back to a place of credibility and authenticity that had seemed in danger of slipping away altogether.
An artist who has long been known for his life-affirming songs that celebrate the better angels of human nature, TRAVIS released a gospel album titled “Inspirational Journey” to which he was honored for by the Gospel Music Association’s 32nd Annual Dove Awards. His recent album also inspired the two-part season finale of the CBS tv series “Touched by An Angel.”
Opening for RANDY TRAVIS are special guests performers Kenny Hess and Amber Nicholson.
Kenny Hess, a long time fan favorite, who’s traditional approach to country music will complement the evening along with up and coming country starlet Amber Nicholson, winner of 2007 BCCMA Female artist of the year who just recently performed in Nashville at Fan Fare. Nicholson’s new radio release “Afraid to love” is capturing the hearts of listeners across Canada.
