Distance and Trail Rating: 10km 1
Start Point Address / Driving Directions:
575 1st Ave (corner of 1st Ave and Cushman St). Tel.907-451-6552. Fairbanks is 358 miles north of Anchorage by way of the Parks Hwy. From Airport Way turn north on Cushman St. Note the one-way streets. Springhill Suites is on the corner of 2nd/1st Ave and Cushman St. On-street parking is available but in short supply. Use the Fairbanks parking garage on Lacey St off 3rd Ave. Parking is $1.00 an hour. Event Description: Daily dawn to dusk. However, the Pioneer Park businesses on the route close at 9PM. Trail is rated 1 and is suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. It is an easy walk along sidewalks, paved bike trails and some road shoulders. The route leads you through some of the most historical areas of Fairbanks. There is written commentary on the route instructions. You will walk along the scenic Chena River viewing buildings of the past. Enter Pioneer Park into a collection of Fairbanks' history. Travel through the downtown business district to one of the oldest cemeteries in town. Return by way of the Chena River and Golden Heart Park. Welcome to Fairbanks, "The Golden Heart City."
