Coming to Eugene on Monday, November 9, is hip-hop sensation and controversial rap artist Immortal Technique with special guests Diabolic, Poison Pen, Swave Sevah and Chino XL. U. of O. Campus Radio 88.1 FM KWVA welcomes the show.
Technique's hip-hop album entitled The 3rd World is hip-hop bliss if you are an Immortal Technique fan and his live performance will not disappoint! New songs like Hollywood Driveby" and Harlem Renaissance" are reminiscent of his childhood and traveling all over on tour dates.
Stage name Immortal Technique has a real name of Felipe Coronel. He was born February 19, 1978 in Lima, Peru although he was raised in Brooklyn, New York. His fan base as an American rapper knows him with a background in political activism within his lyrics. He has stated that he wants to stay in charge of his own production, which is why he has not signed with offers from Def Jam Records and a Sony development plan. This has led to a strong and dedicated fan base across the nation with its origin in New York City. He has sold over 200,000 records and has four official releases since 2000.
In his earlier life Tech attended Pennsylvania State University for a few semesters and took a few science classes at Baruch University -- getting in trouble with the law along the way. His songs can stem from his struggles with the law and racism within it. Coronel began selling his music on the streets of New York while battling in local MC clubs to get his name out. He matched up with well-known MC's such as Braggin' Rites.
In 2001 Tech released his first record Revolutionary Volume 1, which included his infamous song entitled Dancing with the Devil" -- seen to most critics as extremely violent and graphic. Other famous songs on this record include Industrial Revolution" and Unsigned Hype". His controversial song Bin Laden" was released in 2004 and featured famous hip-hop stars such as Most Def and Jadakiss talking about September 11 and implying that George Bush and fellow executives were largely to blame for this fatal day.
Immortal Technique's third album entitled The 3rd World sold over 54,000 copies and was given many Hip-Hop music awards. In 2009 he released his fourth album called Voice of the Voiceless, a collaboration between Immortal Technique and Lowkey, which was launched on September 21, 2009 on iTunes. This album raps a lot about racism, social injustice, war, world revolution and socialism. There is said to be a new album release in 2010 called Revolutionary 3.
Playing at WOW Hall along with Immortal Technique is Diabolic, Chino XL, a rapper from New York, and Swave Sevah another famous socialist rapper from New York.
Tickets are $16 in advance and $18 at the door. Doors open at 8:00 pm and showtime is 9:00.
