      ENDICOTT HISTORICAL RAILROAD EXHIBIT

An exhibit featuring the history of railroads in Endicott and vicinity is on display at the Endicott Visitor Center on the Second Floor. The presentation, “Endicott Historical Railroad Exhibit,” continues on display now through June 2019. The exhibit features railroad artifacts from the archives of the Susquehanna Valley Railway Historical Society, a member chapter of the National Railway Historical Society.

Among the artifacts are the original Endicott station sign from the Erie Railroad depot which served the town. There are dozens of framed photographs featuring railroad engines, trolleys, depots, and scenes along the railway in Binghamton, Johnson City, Endicott and areas nearby. Photographs also include named passenger trains in action, with the Lackawanna Railroad’s famous The Phoebe Snow pictured at the Endicott station.

Displays of railroad workers in their uniforms stand next to railroad lanterns, crossing Stop signs, signal flags, and tools of the trade such as oiler cans. A number board from Erie locomotive #3128 accompanies a picture of this steam engine.

Glass display cases contain a variety of railroad-related artifacts including a Trainman’s bell, railway badges, and a telegrapher’s training key. Passenger timetables from the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western, Delaware and Hudson, and Erie Railroads are presented alongside railroad locks, keys, and railroad spikes.

This rich display of railroad photographs and artifacts is sure to bring back many memories when railroads were the centerpiece of life in Endicott and the rest of the Southern Tier..
