Every 60 minutes, an American is diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). It comes out of nowhere and strikes even the healthiest of us. What begins with flu-like symptoms leads to a loss of balance and eventually the nerve cells that control movement throughout the body shut down causing complete paralysis.
On Saturday, May 12 the public is invited to show their support by participating in Gettin’ Down With Toni Brown. At each of the 9 Spectrum Clubs special classes and fitness sessions will be held and members and the public, alike, will be asked to donate a minimum $25 to participate. Other fundraising opportunities will be available including a silent action of sports memorabilia (presentation areas featuring the merchandise will be situated at each club) and an online auction that is currently in development (visit www.spectrumclubs.com for updates). All proceeds will benefit Augie’s Quest, the Muscular Dystrophy Association ALS research initiative.
