Description
The El Paso Zoo is an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). The El Paso Zoo is currently 18 acres expanding to 36. It serves as a regional center for affordable family fun, formal and informal education, and conservation efforts for wildlife and their natural habitat. The Zoo serves nearly 300,000 visitors annually from El Paso, New Mexico and the Borderland area. Currently, the Zoo is home to 240 species of animals, 500 mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds, 700 fish and 500 invertebrates in natural habitat exhibits. The Asian Complex is home to elephants, tigers and orangutans. The Americas Aviary includes a walkway for visitors as well as a waterfall, flowers and plants.

The groom dressed like Elvis and a biker was the preacher. Part of the wedding party flew in from Japan to be in attendance because the bride and groom like the zoo so much that they decided to hold it here in America. - Humpy the Alligator from the San Jacinto Plaza eventually came to live at the El Paso Zoo after vandals blinded him in his left eye. He remained at the Zoo for the rest of his life as one of the most popular exhibits and was honored posthumously by the Vet’s Association as Animal of the Year in 2006.
Coming to the Africa Savannah in 2008-2010! The El Paso Water Utilities Discovery Education Center will offer visitors hands-on activities about water conservation. The El Paso Electric Renewable Energy Demonstration Project “Windows to the Wild Outpost” will demonstrate renewable energy & stewardship of energy resources to children and families.

The El Paso Zoo is off US-54 right across from the Coliseum. From the Airport (Eastside) take I-10 West, exit 23-B, follow the Paisano Drive signs. From Downtown (Westside) take I-10 East to US-54 South heading to Juarez stay to the right. Exit in right lane at the Juarez/Paisano split. Follow the Zoo signs to Paisano. HOURS: The El Paso Zoo is open year round. Closed November 23, December 24, 25, 31 & January 1. El Paso Zoo grounds close a half hour after the ticket booth closes.
