The Seed Savers was inspired by the true-life battle between biotech giant Montsano and Saskatchewan farmer Percy Schmeiser over his use of genetically Canola which he claimed blew into his field. It explores the turmoil in Canola farming through Mindy and Joe, an elderly couple who are sued after they discover genetically modified canola growing in their crop. Mindy and Joe must come to terms with betrayal, past mistakes, changing farm practices, a 50th anniversary and an estranged granddaughter visiting from Toronto in their bid to hold on to their farm, their family, and even their love for each other.
