Charity Art Show Featuring Artist Bonnie Hodges

A local artist’s paintings will be displayed in a charity art show from October 9 - November 15 at the Rose House in downtown Edmonds. The show is to raise funds to purchase the historic Edmonds landmark for use as a community center.

Edmonds, Washington, September 7, 2009 -- A charity art show at the Rose House (555 Main Street) will exhibit the paintings of new Edmonds’ artist, Bonnie Hodges, from October 9 - November 15, 2009. The show is to raise funds for the Center for Creative & Humanitarian Endeavors, a non-profit trying to purchase the historic Rose House for use as a community center.

The Rose House, built in 1907, is one of the oldest buildings in Edmonds, and is one of the most endangered historic properties in Washington. Its location at the corner of 6th Street and Main Street is prime commercial real estate, meaning that the charming Victorian-style house could be razed to make way for office buildings or condominiums. The Center for Creative & Humanitarian Endeavors wants to purchase the Rose House for use as a community center for the advancement of the arts, health and community wellness, a sustainable environment, and global understanding. To raise money, the Center is hosting a charity art show at the Rose House displaying Hodges’ paintings from October 9 - November 15. Proceeds from sales of paintings and prints will be used to help save the Rose House for the benefit of the community.

Hodges may be new to Edmonds, but she is thrilled to be able to contribute towards saving the Rose House for the Edmonds’ community. Hodges has taken quickly to her new home, and is already involved on the Edmonds’ art scene, such as by teaching a painting class at Edmonds Community College.

Hodges works mainly with oil, pastel, and computer-rendered art. Her realistic style brings spirit and energy to her portraits, landscapes, and still lifes. Jerry Goldstein, the owner of Post Gallery in Houston, described Hodges as “an extremely versatile artist [with] an ability to be tight and expressive with a use of color value that is extremely good.” Hodges’ animal portraits are so life-like that the viewer could almost reach out and stroke the coat. The animal’s personality comes through in her paintings, because Hodges captures the eyes, the windows to the soul.

About Bonnie Hodges:

Hodges holds a B.A. in Studio Arts from the University of Maryland, and worked as an illustrator for the U.S. Department of State. Her art has been featured in national and international art shows, competitions, several magazines, and is on display in collections in the USA and Europe.
