Electrical/Utility Lineworker Training Program Information Meeting at Lansing, Michigan, United States

Capital Area Michigan Works! has partnered with Lansing Community College and the Workforce Development Agency State of Michigan to administer a U.S. Department of Energy grant to train individuals to enter Michigan's electrical utility workforce.

The program can pay tuition, fees and textbooks for courses included in LCC's Electrical Utility/Lineworker certificate of completion.

LCC's Electrical/Utility Lineworker certificate is a 32 credit, 16 month program. Starting with an application process, individuals then must attend mandatory program meetings, two semesters of academic classes and then a 9 week climbing school. Successful completion of this training prepares individuals to enter lineworks apprenticeships in utility companies or other occupations utilizing similar skills.

You must attend a mandatory information meeting to begin the application process.

CANDIDATE ELIGIBILITY: All individuals over the age of 18 with a clean driving record and eligible to work in the United States are encouraged to apply. Additionally, candidates must:

  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Not have DUI or 6 point infraction within the last 12 months
  • Not have a license suspended in the past 36 months
  • Be eligible to be issued a Michigan Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
  • Demonstrate reading, writing and math skills equal to Level 4 on LCC's placement test
  • Willing to work at heights exceeding 20 feet
  • Able to physically carry 50 pounds of tools
  • Be able to pass an acceptable DOT physical
  • Those with felony convictions or multiple driving offenses will be considered on a case by case basis

APPLICATION PROCESS: Must attend one of the information meetings to enter the application process and learn more about the overall training program.
