Opening Reception: Nevin Mercede's "The Reflections Series"
ARTIST'S STATEMENT: "The Reflections Series" represents a fifteen-year exploration of the integration of text with image. The reflections presented are visual, landcapes as seen on water surfaces, and verbal. Social, political and educational issues or situations are framed through collected quotes, my responses to these and/or my own reflective writings. The image-integrated words offer an illusion of transparency, a metaphor for the elusive communication between deeply dibergent cultural viewpoints.
