Cordis has been redefining contemporary chamber music by fusing an original combination of custom-made and traditional ethnic instruments to create their signature sound. Although the ensemble is built upon cello (Jeremy Harman), concert cimbalom (Richard Grimes), piano (Dan Padgett), and percussion (Andrew Beall) - one-of-a-kind creations such as the electric mbira, melodica, and the world's longest playing cylinder-driven music box also have a way of weaving their way into any given performance.

Carefully grafting contemporary classical elements into the sublime textures of the post-punk era, the group is often included with instrumental collectives such as Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky. Cordis is currently working with Icelandic superstar, Bjork, on a collaboration that will feature her vocalizations, to be presented on a vintage 1904 Victor Sound Machine, amidst the signature Cordis soundscape. The group has recently been featured in Billboard Magazine's "Continental Divide" segment as one of the country's breaking artists, and on National Public Radio's live performance show, Mountain Stage.
