Description
FoxValley Evangelical Free Church grew out of the excitement of six couples in an evening Bible study in September 1977. The study of God’s word would move to be foundational to all FVC does. Under the direction of Pastor Paul Cox, a Trinity Evangelical Divinity student, these twelve people prepared to claim the Fox Valley area for Christ. Paul began as a part-time pastor and was voted in as full-time pastor later the following year. His vision involved a strong ministry focus for evangelism and discipleship.

Attendance slowly grew, so the church moved from a suburban home, to the Algonquin American Legion Hall. Shortly thereafter, Jacobs High School in Algonquin was rented for Sunday morning services.

From the start of the Worship Committee and a Children’s Education program in 1978, FVC gradually adopted another 15 ministries shortly thereafter.

In September 1986, Fred Urquhart was called to the pastorate at FoxValley. He assumed leadership of the evangelism and discipleship program. He secured office space and added staff which helped minister to the body. The church continued to meet at Jacobs High School.

In November 1992, Tom Atchison was called to the pastorate at FoxValley. Tom continued the commitment to the Bible, as well as evangelism and discipleship. The ministry continued to grow, adding staff and ministries for greater impact.

August 1999 marked a turning point in the history of FVC. The people of FVC,with a stronger vision of community impact, built a ministry center. As the ministry continued to develop, phase 2 began with a projected finishing date for the spring of 2007.
