Event details: Bewley's Jazz Double Bill - Trihornophone and Dennis Wyer...
Description
Two of the most exciting groups on the Irish jazz scene are gearing up for
a night of new-music in Dublin. Sean Og's Trihornophone and Dennis Wyers'
Rhombus will be playing a double bill at Bewley's Theatre on Wednesday,
November 11th. They'll be performing new pieces plus music written
especially for the whole group. Definitely not to be missed. Tickets :
€10, Doors 8pm.
Trihornophone
Bill Blackmore | trumpet
Seán Óg | alto saxophone
Kelan Walsh | baritone saxophone
Dennis Cassidy | drum kit
Trihornophone are a decidedly unusual group. Featuring trumpet, two
saxophones and a drum kit, they turn every notion of convention on its
head. Stranger still, despite stubbornly insisting on performing their own
brand of mini-brass band music which relies heavily on improvisation, they
always manage to balance freedom with form, creating a vibrant and
accessible show. Led by Seán Óg, winner of Cork Jazz Festival's Best
Young Artist 2008, this quartet is one of Ireland's most creatively
engaging bands today.
Winners of Music Network's Youngmusicwide Award 2007, Trihornophone's
second album was released by Diatribe Recordings in October 2008 to
critical and popular acclaim. Available now from www.diatribe.ie and Irish
record stores.

"Music should be honest, responsive and organic". That's the plan behind
the fresh, new 'Rhombus' ensemble and it's letting the band create an
original sound to be savoured. Each of its members are soloists in their
own right and Rhombus' shows are becoming no-holds-barred performances of
respectful musical exploration. Nordic jazz, classical minimalism, blues,
drum-and-bass .... every style is fair-game so long as it lets the players
use their own musicality to create sensitive dialogue. With the band making
use of its greatest asset; the ability and inclination to listen to one
another; expect a show full of unpredictable, spontaneous sounds from this
highly responsive group of musicians.
Rhombus' debut album 'The way things look smaller the further you walk' has
been recorded and is expected for release later this year.
