Question of the Month: Should atheists support charities? If so, why would/should/might an atheist want to support charity? Is there anything that compels an atheist to do so. You might approach this strictly from your own thoughts & convictions, or you might want to discuss what various philosophies say, for example humanism, hedonism, Epicurianism, nihilism, existentialism, objectivism, determinism, ? Similarly, you might want to talk about what philosophers say: Epicurus, Nietchze, Satre, Rand, Abbot, Costello? Agenda: 1. Review events from the past month 2. Poll everyone about upcoming events & happenings that would be of interest to our members. 3. Spotlight on a feature of our website. 4. Brief introduction of new members 5. Preview of next month's Question Of The Month 6. We wll then give everyone 3 minutes to talk about whatever is on their mind and to suggest topics to go into more depth after everyone who wants to has had a chance to speak. 7 Afterglow: Marinelli's on the SE corner of 12 Mile & I-75. So, what might you talk about in your time? Here are some suggestions. * The question of the month * Something that happened in the past month * Something in the news * An upcoming event * If you are new, you might tell us about yourself * A philosophical issue that you've been thinking about * Something that you want to get the rest of us involved in. * Books, newspaper articles, magazine articles that you've read. * Websites or podcasts that you've discovered. * Movies that you've seen, that are in current release, or soon to be released. * Issues related to the separation of state & church. We'll keep a list of suggested topics to talk about. As a group, we'll choose among these suggestions.
