SCULPTURE AND PAINTINGS BY SUSAN CHRYSLER WHITE AND HOLIDAY SHOW

An opening reception for a solo exhibition of Susan Chrysler White and a group Holiday Show will be held on Friday, December 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. This event is in conjunction with 2AU at 200 Fifth Street and is free and open to the public. The exhibitions will remain on display through January 16, 2010.

The abstract imagery and patterns in Susan Chrysler White’s paintings morph into forms that are “botanical, insect-like or mutations of some hybrid futuristic organism”. Susan does not use brushes to make her paintings but instead pours and presses paint onto the canvas or paper. Susan will also display a hanging sculpture composed of clear acrylic, enamel, and acrylic paint for the exhibition. Susan is the Area Head for Painting and Drawing at the University of Iowa Department of Art. Her work is included in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rutgers University and the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. She has taught at such institutions as the Cooper Union School of Art, Skidmore College and Carnegie Mellon University.

The Holiday Show will feature: casein paintings by Des Moines artist William Barnes, low relief sculptures by Dick Brewer of Minneapolis, charcoal drawings by Barbara Fedeler of Cedar Falls, conceptual sculpture by Grinnell artist Carlos Ferguson, oil paintings by David Gordinier of Mesa, Arizona, acrylic paintings by Sarah Grant of Des Moines, mixed media sculpture by Sioux City artist Ken Peterson, and oil paintings by Scott Charles Ross of Des Moines.
