GENERAL
The mission of the AB Bad Ass Film Festival Tour 2012 (Festival) is to create platforms for filmmakers to reach the widest possible audience for their work. Since submission of a film constitutes acceptance of these Entry Rules & Regulations (by filmmakers and their agents), please review this document carefully.
KEY DATES
• December 30, 2011 - Submissions open
• January 6, 2012 - Early Entry deadline for:
"Features" (film length ≥ 40 minutes)
"Shorts" (film length < 40 minutes)
• January 6, 2012 - Official Entry deadline for then-complete Features and for all Shorts. This is the last deadline for Short submissions.
• January 13, 2012 - Late Entry deadline available only to those Features (narrative and documentary) completed after the Official Entry deadline and which have not been screened publicly or otherwise distributed anywhere at the time of submission. This deadline is for Features ONLY; Shorts will NOT be accepted for this deadline.
• February , - February , 2012- 1st Annual AB BAd Ass Film Festival 2012 in Derby, Kansas
Note: Submissions may be in work-in-progress form; however, works that are not final cuts must be clearly marked "Work in Progress (WIP)" or "Rough Cut" with an indication of what will change or what is missing (e.g., temp sound, Avid output, missing animation, etc.) Also, due to the volume of submissions, only ONE replacement copy (i.e. final cut) will be accepted and replacement copies will not be accepted after January 27, 2012 (unless solicited by the Festival).
ENTRY FEES
• Early Entry Deadline (January 6, 2012) - Shorts: US$25; Features: US$45
• Official Entry Deadline (January 13, 2012) - Shorts: US$40; Features: US$65
• Late Entry Deadline (January 27, 2012) - Shorts: US$65 Features US$95
Note: Entry fees are in U.S. Dollars, are per film and are non-refundable. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify a submission, without refund of any kind, if eligibility requirements are not met including if eligibility status changes post-submission.
Students: Entry fees for student Short submissions will be waived upon receipt by the Festival of a photocopy of a current and valid student ID card or a letter from an accredited school verifying enrollment. Students who submit Features MUST pay the applicable entry fee(s).
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for consideration:
(1) Entrants must fully comply with these Entry Rules & Regulations, including all deadline, film length, entry material and other requirements.
(2) Non-English language works must have English subtitles at the time submitted. Dialogue lists will not be accepted.
(3) The film MUST maintain at minimum a "New York Region" premiere status prior to TFF12 ("Premiere"; see criteria in charts, below).
SHORTS (fiction and documentary):
*ANY public screening, broadcast, distribution or exhibition before January 1, 2011(other than as described in 1 below) - INELIGIBLE
*Theatrical - Any exhibition in the US (other than as described in 2 below) - INELIGIBLE
*Theatrical - Limited exhibition only outside of the US and on/after January 1, 2011 - ELIGIBLE
*DVD - Any commercial DVD distribution ANYWHERE - INELIGIBLE
*TV - Any broadcast available to US audiences - INELIGIBLE
*TV - Limited broadcast available only outside the US and on/after January 1, 2011 - ELIGIBLE
*Digital - Any digital broadcast (including via a non-password protected website, whether commercial or personal, e.g. Vimeo, YouTube, etc.), unless approved in writing in advance by the Festival (and, for clarity, except for TFF12 screenings) - INELIGIBLE
*Festival - Any exhibition held IN the New York Region as part of a film festival (other than as described in 2 below and, for clarity, except for the ABFF12) - INELIGIBLE
*Festival - Exhibition as part of a film festival held outside the New York Region and on/after January 1, 2011 - ELIGIBLE
-1 Private, invite only screenings (i.e. screenings for family or cast or screenings for feedback) - ELIGIBLE
-2 Screenings for students/faculty in an in-house and in-person-only film festival - ELIGIBLE
FEATURES (fiction and documentary)

*DVD - Limited distribution only outside the US and on/after January 1, 2012 - ELIGIBLE
*TV - Any broadcast available to US audiences (other than as described in 3 below) - INELIGIBLE
*TV - Limited broadcast available only outside the US and on/after January 1, 2012 - ELIGIBLE
*Digital - Any digital broadcast available to US audiences (including via a non-password protected website, whether commercial or personal, e.g. Vimeo, YouTube, etc.), other than as described in 3 below - INELIGIBLE
*Digital - Limited internet broadcast available only outside of the US and on/after January 1, 2012 - ELIGIBLE
*Festival - Any exhibition held IN the New York Region as part of a film festival (other than as described in 2 or 3 below and, for clarity, except for TFF12 screenings) - INELIGIBLE
*Festival - Exhibition held outside the New York Region as part of a film festival and on/after January 1, 2011 - ELIGIBLE
-1 Private, invite only screenings (i.e. screenings for family or cast or screenings for feedback) - ELIGIBLE
-2 Screenings for students/faculty in an in-house and in-person-only film festival - ELIGIBLE
-3 For SELECTED films: theatrical, DVD, TV, digital and/or festival screenings scheduled to be held DURING the TFF12 but after the Feature's Premiere, if approved in advance and in writing by the Festival - ELIGIBLE
HOW TO ENTER
Apply online at: http://abff@eventbrite.com and mail all required entry materials (see below).
ENTRY MATERIALS*
All entries must include the following:
(1) An online official ABFF12 "Entry Form" properly completed.
(2) The entry fee(s) (or student ID/school letter photocopy), which is payable when you complete the Official ABFF12 "Entry Form"
(3) TWO DVD copies of the work, formatted for multi-zone or for Zone 1 (North America) and labeled with the work's title, running time, director(s) name(s). Entries in any other format will not be accepted for preview. Check that each submitted DVD plays in its entirety on consumer DVD players. Also, do not put adhesive labels on the discs unless it is a professional output job (if burning yourself, use a permanent marker to write necessary information).
Note: It is Entrant's sole responsibility to ensure all ENTRY MATERIALS arrive at the ABFF12 shipping destination within the deadline window selected by Entrant. Films submitted for the EARLY or OFFICIAL deadline must arrive in our offices no later than 2 weeks from the entry date. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify any submission, without refund of any kind, which does not arrive at the ABFF12 shipping destination within the deadline window.
*Entry materials will not be returned and will be destroyed or discarded by the Festival.
MULTIPLE ENTRIES
Each entered film must be submitted on its own DVD(s) and accompanied by its own completed "Entry Form"; please do not send a compilation DVD composed of works for separate entries.
IF YOUR WORK IS SELECTED
If your work is selected, you must fulfill the following requirements by the date(s) designated by the Festival:
(1) You must execute a release agreement wherein you (i) accept responsibility for obtaining any and all clearances necessary to exhibit your film at ABFF12; (ii) warrant that you have the rights necessary to exhibit your film at ABFF12; and (iii) indemnify and hold harmless AB Bad Ass Film Festival Tour 2012, its parent company, its affiliates, and subsidiaries and any of their respective directors, officers, employees, and representatives against any claim arising out of exhibition of your film at ABFF12.
(2) You must deliver to the address(es) designated by the Festival (i) one exhibition copy of the invited work; (ii) a second exhibition copy, if your film is in competition (to accommodate juror screenings). We recommend you ship via courier in order to permit the tracking of your entry once it leaves your hands.
• All exhibition copies must be delivered in 35mm or HDCAM format.
• AB BAD ASS (Online) Film Festival lets audiences in the U.S. experience the action even if they are unable to attend. Line-up will be comprised of official selections of ABFF12. Films screening as part of AB BAD ASS (Online) Film Festival are eligible for Best Online Feature and Best Online Short.
*Film series and programs, descriptions, and awards for the TFF12 may be modified.
AWARDS
• Unless otherwise agreed by the Festival in writing, awards will be given to the winning film director (as identified in the Film Information Form) on behalf of the film (except for Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Editing) and will be fulfilled approximately 16-18 weeks after the closing date of the ABFF12.
• Award eligibility is subject to any restrictions or conditions imposed by applicable laws and regulations (international, federal, state or otherwise), and the award recipient is responsible for all applicable taxes, customs, tariffs, insurance and similar charges or costs (if any).
• All new Features (except those only shown in the "Special Screening" or "Special Event") are eligible for the "Audience Award," regardless of section.
• 2011 Awards listed in the above Festival sections and Awards sections are subject to change.
