Grass roots advocacy organization, Mission Supports, produces another unique benefit featuring Ron Miles & Janet Feder
Jazz artist and educator Ron Miles and prepared guitar performer and composer Janet Feder will take the Dazzle Showroom stage for yet another entertaining benefit for Mission Supports. The show is on Sunday, July 8, 2012 - 7p.m. at Dazzle, 930 Lincoln st. Admission is $10 and seats are reserved by going to dazzlejazz.com or by calling 303-839-5100.
The evening will feature two of Denver’s internationally renowned musicians who are also “boot-strap” contributors to Mission Supports. Jazz man Ron Miles will perform with Dave Devine – guitar, Corbin Jones – bass, and Josh Moore – drums. Janet Feder, who is back from touring, will share the stage with drummer Amy Shelley. There will also be a silent auction and our Mission Market will open at 6:30. Pm. The money raised at this event will help cover the cost of connecting with community members who are isolated and in crisis.
Mission supports is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which promotes advocacy and support for those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities and are on long waiting lists for critical resources. They have provided support to people on the Medicaid Waiver wait list for over a year, and they will be receiving this year’s Dan B. Davidson Award for Excellence in Inclusion as an agency, from the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council.
Mission Supports’ Lead Advocate and President, Arnie Swenson, explains, “The politics and management of Medicaid Waiver Resources are baffling and awkwardly bureaucratic. Profound and alarming are discovering the practical day to day needs of our neighbors on the waiting list, along with experiencing the panic and sadness of aging parents who are wondering what will happen to their child when he or she dies. The ‘waiting list’ is unfortunately an intense and abstract subject to explain and discuss, but the community needs to be aware and more natural integration needs to take place. ”
Swenson will smile widely when you ask him about Ron Miles’ 1987 LP release “Distance for Safety.” He’s not only honored to offer the re-released CD version and limited supply of LPs to Ron’s fans, but he’s proud of helping produce Ron’s first album back in the 80’s, and excited that it’s now out on CD. You can get your CD or LP of “Distance for Safety” at Mission Market on line or at the benefit. To learn more go to missionsupports.org.
