Class includes instruction on Using a Compass and GPS with a Topographic Map. This class focuses on the fundamentals of outdoor navigation with a compass, GPS receiver and a printed topographic map. Students will receive instruction on compass use, map reading, GPS setup, accuracy, coordinate systems, map datums, waypoints, and tracklogs. Receivers and compasses are available for loan if you don't already have one. Students should be prepared for a combination of classroom instruction and outdoor exercises at a nearby location.

The emphasis is on using a compass and GPS with a published map for outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and 4-wheeling.
