If you would be willing to carpool to this event, please indicate this in your RSVP (as well as the location from which you will be coming) There will be a donation box present. Donations to RAK are NOT tax deductible, but it is an expensive site to run, and I greatly appreciate all the help that anyone is willing and able to give me to help keep RAK going. Bring a dish or make food at the Shelter. I'll probably be there around 5:15, as I like to make my meals at the shelter. We are free to use Urban Peak's utensils and supplies, including stove and oven. We will serve the kids buffet-style and then eat with them. I usually get a few crazy stories out of them. The faces change every day, so there are always new stories to be told. You can donate your leftovers or feel free to take them home with you. Just a note: those cheap, foil throw-away casserole tins are perfect (expensive lessons learned myself). I usually bring about two 9x13 inch-sized casseroles and it's the perfect size. Crockpot food works well too. And you don't have to spend a fortune. I've been going every month for over a year, and am more than happy to offer any suggestions, answer any questions, or calm any fears. Please don't be intimated by the number!!! Even though we feed 25 to 40 kids, Your food is only a portion of a full meal and when we all pull together it works just fine. PROMISE! The FOOD Network website offers a billion easy recipes. Grocery store deli-sections are good for those who want to help but are not on speaking terms with their kitchens! I like to theme my dinners. Please fill out the poll if you plan on participating. I will close the poll about two weeks before our date and let you know the result. I will then update RSVP instructions based on the vote for the month. Please let me know if you have any questions or need suggestions, as I've been going for a really long time. Thanks for your interest. There is no age limit for this event; however if you have kids under 12, they will need to be with you at all times. Please note that the residents at the shelter tend to use rather candid language, so if you do not want your child exposed to this, this may not be the best event to bring him or her to! ???????????????????????????????????????? From the Website: "For people on the streets, it's important to know that the opportunity is there-whenever they are ready. It's a good feeling to have, knowing that somebody cares about you and wants to see you do well. They offer a chance, and it's good to know that the chance is always going to be there." - Urban Peak Youth "Urban Peak helps young people overcome homelessness and other real life challenges by providing safety, respect, essential services and a supportive community, empowering them to become self-reliant adults."
