ACTION FIGURES!!
Action Figures is an interview/discussion series hosted by Katie Taft, esteemed artist and valued instructor here at WWA. Action Figure lectures are held at Working With Artists/ the Colorado Photographic Arts Center on the Second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm. WWA is located at 445 South Saulsbury Street in Belmar.
The series is a new and improved version of the Self Made lecture series held at Double Daughter’s from 2005 to 2007. Each month a (usually) local person is invited to come and talk about what their experiences have been living and working in the “Art World.” We discuss their lives, their work and how and whatever it is that keeps them creating.
Past speakers have included visual artists of all kinds, curators, gallery owners, arts administrators, musicians, and one fantastic choreographer, and in the future could include just about anything else.
THIS MONTH: NATHAN ABELS
TUESDAY AUGUST 9TH AT 7pm
@ Flash Gallery, Working with Artists
Free to WWA/CPAC members, $8 for guests
Nathan Abels has been an active member in the Denver arts scene since his arrival in 2007 from Indiana- showing in numerous solo and group shows. The Denver Post named him the “Emerging Artist of the Year” for 2009 and one of the “12 Best Colorado Artists 35 and Under” in 2011. His work was chosen as the juror’s honorable mention by the Denver Art Museum’s director Christoph Heinrich as a part of the Foothills Art Center “Colorado Open.”
Nathan states, “my current works explore the landscape and its inhabitants with each image depicting a visual pause in an ongoing event. What I am capturing in these paused moments is a sense of, as Keats wrote, ‘straining at particles of light in the midst of great darkness.’”
