In this four-week Acting for the Camera class, you will discover the secrets to connecting with your scene partner, being in the moment, and why your best "choice" is probably to just be yourself. This class will change the way you think about acting for the camera and the way you watch movies. Really.

The Emerging Filmmakers Project's Acting for the Camera class introduces actors to the difference between acting in front of an audience and acting in front of a camera and how 'less is more' on film. This class is ideal for anybody who wants to take the first few steps to acting in front of the camera (and those who want to do it better) or those with exeperience acting on stage who want to discover how to deliver great moments on screen. Classes will cover screen techniques, connecting with your scene partner, surrendering to your environemnt, auditioning for film, cold reading, and more. Students will spend a considerable amount of time being filmed for playback in class.

  • Tuesday night, November 22nd and runs through December 13th.
  • Tuesday night, January 24th and runs through February 21st (skips 2/14)14th).

Class is held from 6:30 until 9:30.

Class is taught by local filmmaker Patrick Sheridan. A graduate of the Vancouver Film School's writing program, Patrick has written and directed over 20 short films, as well as the soon-to-be-released feature, Jimmy Said. He has optioned several feature-length scripts. Patrick has taught a variety of workshops for actors and writers of all abilities and is a highly respected script consultant.
