Description

Michele Mosko Fine Art is delighted to present ART ROCKS !! a curated exhibition of original artwork by legendary graphic artist Stanley Mouse and select photographs taken in the late Sixties by internationally recognized photographer Amalie R. Rothschild.

For many of us today the music influenced by the Sixties, and the imagery and message of the psychedelic era cannot be forgotten. This show’s unique pairing of artists reflects that time and brings concert performances back to life in a carefully selected exhibition of fine art. ART ROCKS !! is created, in part, to celebrate the upcoming concert appearance of The Grateful Dead in Denver to be held on May 7th and  complements the theme of the current exhibition of psychedelic posters at the Denver Art Museum.

Legendary concert promoter Bill Graham referred to Stanley Mouse as one of the most important figures of the 1960s.  Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart calls Stanley Mouse “a part of our mythology.” Creating images such as Zig Zag Man, psychedelic posters for the Fillmore Auditorium and the Avalon Ballroom, the skull and roses motif for the Grateful Dead, and the flying horse for the Steve Miller Band’s album Book of Dreams, Stanley Mouse has created some of the most iconic artwork of our time.  Original drawings, paintings and lithographs, many created specifically for this show, will be available for exhibition and sale.

Amalie R. Rothschild’s photography of the Fillmore East in New York City captures thousands of moments of rock history as she called the Fillmore her home from 1968-1971.  Her photographs document live concerts and backstage rehearsals and intimate moments on and off stage featuring the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Duane Allman, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Ray Charles and Bob Dylan and the psychedelic imagery of the Joshua Light Show (among others).  “Her photographs bring back the entire Fillmore East experience in vivid detail,” says Mickey Hart of her work.

This exhibit of fine and collectible art is an extraordinary grouping of key imagery that reflects the musical history of rock ’n’ roll of the late Sixties.  Rothschild’s limited edition photos and Mouse’s paintings, drawings and graphics allow the gallery to pulse with a visual and visceral tempo of an era we’ll never forget.

ART ROCKS !! opens Wednesday, May 6th and runs thru Saturday, August 1st, 2009.  Stanley Mouse will be in attendance for the opening reception on Wednesday, May 6th from 6 to 9 pm.  A second reception for Amalie R. Rothschild will be held in July.  Gallery hours are Wednesday thru Saturday 12 – 6 pm. Complimentary parking is available in the rear of the gallery. Interviews with each artist are available as are additional images of artworks displayed.

Though a Denver native, Ms. Mosko's first business was born in New York in the heart of SoHo. There, she curated shows around her inventory of contemporary master prints as well as placing artworks in private, corporate, and museum collections. Throughout her career, Mosko has been a valuable resource to her individual clients, working with them to acquire or de-access works of art specific to their personal collection and taste. Five years spent as a curator for the impressive collection of photography from the archives of LIFE Magazine has added to her knowledge and expertise. The advent of cultural growth, and her love for the city of Denver prompted Michele Mosko Fine Art to be 'born again' as she returns to the town where she grew up and her passion for art was initiated. Ms. Mosko's involvement began as a child, working at her father's gallery, Galerie des Beaux Arts. There she had the opportunity to meet and learn from numerous international painters and sculptors as well as assist her father in the gallery exhibitions. Contemporary master prints, photography and sculpture are the core inventory at Michele Mosko Fine Art. Much of the gallery's offerings mirror the impressive collection of contemporary art acquired by the Denver Art Museum with master works by artists such as Christo, Jim Dine, Betty Woodman, Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Howard Hodgkin and Sol LeWitt, all available for sale. Additional artworks by mid-career artists such as Geer Morton, Michael Rubin, Jackie Battenfield, Oded Halahmy, Edward Lentsch, Arturo Guerrero and Earl Schofield (previously represented by Mosko in her New York gallery) will be included in her offerings. Photography by Bob Kolbrener, Amalie R. Rothschild, and Carl Corey will be exhibited as well.
