Description
The dates for this trip are pretty firm. I picked late July, so as to guarantee the best weather for us and that the snow is mostly if not completely melted off these mountains. I will hold another happy hour a week before the trip to figure out carpooling and other details. Only experienced 14er hikers will be allowed in this event. Email me and we can chat about that. We will be hiking Eolus/North Eolus, Windom and Sunlight. I am going to break the group down into 2 groups. The first group is going to take the train into these mountains and the second group is going to backpack in. Both groups are going to meetup again at Chicago base camp. We can talk more about this at the happy hours I plan on scheduling once a month: People taking the train: Your fearless leader is Jason Ciercia. Jason's email address is jasonciernia@gmail.com. Get in touch with him for more details on carpooling over to Durango and other details. Thursday, July 23 - Drive to Durango, take the train to Needleton at 9am and backpack to Chicago Base Camp. Friday, July 24 - Hike Eolus and North Eolus Saturday, July 25 - Hike Sunlight and Windom Sunday, July 26 - Hike out to the train at Needleton, take train to Durango and drive home. Backpackers with me: Wednesday, July 22 - Drive down to the Purgatory Ski Resort, backpack in as far as we can go and camp somewhere for the night. Thursday, July 23 - Complete the journey to the Chicago Base Camp and meet up with the rest of our comrades. Friday, July 24 - same as 1st group Saturday, July 25 - same, except we pack up our things and start backpacking out....maybe we can cover 5 miles or so. Going home should be a lot easier, since we have less food to carry and all of the backpacking will be downhill. Sunday, July 26 - Complete the journey to the Purgatory Ski resort and drive home. Research what items you might need for camping over a 4+ day period.
