Cost: Payment required - 25.00 to 125.00
Austin College will host the 2012 Global Outreach (GO!) Forum, to be held Thursday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m. at the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Dee & Charles Wyly Theatre in Dallas’ Arts District. A relentless advocate for disadvantaged children, Children’s Defense Fund Founder and President Marian Wright Edelman will inspire the audience with her vision for creating a bright future by empowering our youth.

Edelman is the 2012 recipient of the Austin College Posey Leadership Award, given each year to an individual who embodies servant leadership in a global context.

Tickets are available from $25 to $125 and can be purchased at www.austincollege.edu/goforum or by calling (214) 880-0202. Tickets at the $125 level include attendance at a dessert reception with speaker Marian Wright Edelman. Tickets for students and non-profit organizations are available for $15.

According to Children’s Defense Fund Founder & President Marian Wright Edelman, “Service is the rent we pay to be living. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time.” She has lived that credo to the utmost, having served as the director of the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund in Jackson, Miss.; become the first black woman lawyer in that state; worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on the Poor People’s Campaign; and founded the Children’s Defense Fund in 1973. Under Edelman’s leadership, the Children’s Defense Fund has become a powerful voice for America’s children and families.
Edelman is the author of several books, and has been honored with numerous awards including the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Prize and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian award.
