The Dallas Firefighters Museum is located in the 1907 Old No. 5 Hook and Ladder Company Station. It boasts a fantastic collection of old firetrucks, including "Old Tige" a 1884 horse-drawn steam pumper named after then mayor W.L. Cabell, and a 1936 ladder truck. Children can indulge their fascination with firefighters by climbing on a hook and ladder truck as well as viewing over 100 years of firefighting history thru a collection of extinguishers, helmets, suits, and uniforms. Sometimes visitors can hear present day's Dallas Fire Department's dispatchers.
The museum is staffed by retired firefighters who are always happy to show to individuals and groups and to give a lesson in fire saftey to the many groups of children who regularly visit. A gift shop is located on the premises.
