Rainbow Springs State Park Archaeological evidence indicates that people have been using this spring for nearly 10,000 years. Rainbow Springs is Florida's fourth largest spring and, from the 1930s through the 1970s, was the site of a popular, privately-owned attraction. The Rainbow River is popular for swimming, snorkeling, canoeing, and kayaking. Canoes and kayaks can be rented at the headsprings. A picnic area at the spring includes tables, grills, and pavilions. Rainbow Springs State Park is a magnificent first magnitude freshwater spring that pumps 500 million gallons of water per day. With over 1000 acres of managed area, there is an abundance of recreational opportunities. Our campground has 60 campsites. If you plan to arrive late please contact the park prior to 5 PM on the day of your arrival. We'll be camping on Friday, Saturday and leaving Sunday with a paddle scheduled for Saturday morning at 10 AM. Campsites are $30 per night and include Water, Electricity and sewage for the RV sites. They allow 1 RV or 2 tents per site along with 2 vehicles and up to 8 people total for those who wish to share. This is the address for their tubing entrance. If your GPS can't find the first address, use this one and then just drive 1 1/2 miles north past the tubing entrance sign and you'll see the campground entrance on the left. We can plan a potluck cookout Saturday evening after the paddle for anyone who would like to participate. For those of you who would like to paddle but not camp, you're invited as well. We can meet you at the KP Hole boat ramp at 10 AM Saturday morning. Entrance to the KP Hole Park is $3 per person. You pay at the window of the building and that gives you access to the entire park. You can drive up, drop off your kayak and gear at the ramp and then park your vehicle. From there we'll paddle down river for about 5 miles where the Rainbow meets the Withlacoochee River and then paddle back up to the top and visit the head springs which is about 1 mile upriver from the launch site. Endurance wise, probably a 6 on a scale of 10 for the paddle. The water is crystal clear and maintains a constant 72 degrees year round. Orlando Areas From I-4 take the Florida Turnpike North. Follow Turnpike until it junctions with I-75 North follow to Exit 341. Take a left onto HWY. 484 West. The Rainbow River State Park does NOT allow disposable containers of any type on the river, which includes water bottles, snack bags, etc... Water and drinks must be in containers such as non-disposable sports bottles, a thermos, etc... and food should be in plastic tupperware type of container.
