Presentation Overview:
United States National CAD Standards-V5

This will program will act as an overview of the National CAD Standard Version 5 (NCS). We will take a broad look at all of the aspects of the Standard as it now sits and explain the practical day to day uses possible for Engineers, Architects, and Construction Specialists.

Learning Objectives:

• Participants will understand the history of the NCS and how it was developed.

• Identify what the benefits are to Architects and Engineers during construction document

  preparation.

• Show the benefits of the NCS to facility managers.

• Explain new online version of the NCS and its benefits.

• Describe future direction of NCS and its association with nBIMs.

  Speaker Bios:
  W. Edward Lowe is a CAD Coordinator with Burgess & Niple, Inc., a multidiscipline engineering and architectural firm in Painesville, Ohio. In this role, he provides technical support and standards guidance to CAD users across the firm's 20 offices in nine states. Mr. Lowe has been in the architecture and engineering industry since 1981, and has been an instrumental member of the NCS Steering Committee since the Version 3.0 release in 2003.

  He is a contributing writer for industry-specific publications, such as the Construction Specifier Magazine. Ed is currently serving as co-chair of the NIBS NCS Wave Task Team. Ed is also a member of the National BIM Standard Project Committee.
