Byrd Polar Research Center Update on Peru
Lonnie Thompson (School of Earth Sciences) and Bryan Mark (Department of Geography) are two Ohio State faculty studying the evidence of climate change in Peru, and they are eager to share what they've uncovered and hear about what the community wants to know regarding the state of glacier change in Peru.

The research team is investigating the physical and human dimensions of environmental change in glacierized landscapes. While in Peru, they are studying glacier changes and impacts over different scales of space and time using many methods. For example, their fieldwork has involved measuring water quantity and quality in glacier-fed streams while simultaneously using aircraft to measure the extent and position of the glaciers in the Cordillera Blanca. The interdisciplinary team has also conducted extensive interviews with Peruvian residents about their concerns, strategies for adaptation and overall resilience in the face of these changes.
