Description
The President tells the country that those who deny our troops the ability to detain and interrogate prisoners and deny our security forces the tools to listen to telephone conversations between terrorists out to destroy us, put the nation at great risk. Critics of this approach say that this is an attempt to coerce opponents into silence while human rights and constitutional protections are ignored to allow the torture of suspects, the suspension of habeas corpus and the unnecessary circumvention of privacy rights for millions of Americans. Dr. Quigley, Professor of Law and Political Science at The Ohio State University, discusses court decisions that have impacted our “War on Terrorism” and the approach of the Bush administration toward legal restraints on waging war and treatment of prisoners. He also examines the policy direction likely under the next administration. CLASS #: 444100 D
