Event details: EARNEST "GUITAR" ROY
Description
Earnest Roy, Jr. was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi under the watchful eye of his late, great father, guitarist Earnest Roy, Sr., a noted musician who worked with Ike Turner, John Lee Hooker and many other Clarksdale bluesmen. Earnest Sr. taught him bass guitar when he was 5, and when Earnest Jr. turned eight, he began playing in his fathers band, “Earnest Roy and the Clarksdale Rockers” along with talents like Big Jack Johnson.
Stepping out from his father's shadow, Earnest formed his own band and has made a name for himself touring the US and Australia with his unique "bluejazz" style.
Claiming his birthright and father's legacy, Eanest has adopted the name and blues tradition of his father's band, "Earnest 'Guitar' Roy and the Clarksdale Rockers
“Earnest plays lovely, thoughtful original solos. ...not another B.B. or Albert King, but is one of the few original voices on guitar. He has a happy knack of writing good songs and performing them convincingly.” -- Bob Eagle, Blues Historian
