"And WE Talk About Sacrifice": Home Front Posters from the Clemson College World War II Information Center Collection at Clemson University

Government-issued posters were part of a massive campaign to encourage home front Americans to support the events of World War II in a variety of specific and ideological ways. Artists used colors, slogans and images familiar to Americans from magazines, advertisements and movies. Poster topics included rationing of food, gasoline and other materials, worker production, homeland security, financing the war, patriotism and supporting the troops. The posters in this exhibit are selected from over 200 sent to Clemson College's War Information Center during World War II. The War Information Center Collection is part of the University Libraries' Special Collections holdings. The posters help us compare and contrast the concerns and ideals of Americans who lived during the World War II era with those of today.
